Fly Tiers Needed on May 17 & 18

Volunteer fly tiers are needed for the Outdoor Heritage Education Expo to be held May 17 and 18 at the MacKenzie Center in Poynette, Wisconsin. We are expecting between 2,500 and 3,000 children to attend this year and we need volunteers to teach the kids how to tie a fly. So far we have 10 volunteers for Wednesday, May 17 and 9 for Thursday, May 18. We need at least 15 volunteers each day. All the tying supplies will be furnished and all the tiers would have to bring is their vise and tying tools to include a scissors and bobbin. We will even supply the thread. In past years, we have had up to 1,000 kids tie a fly during the two day event, but we had around 18 to 20 volunteer tiers.

The event runs from 9:00am to 3:00pm on each day. We ask volunteers to be there at around 8:15am to 8:30am to get set up. When you arrive, you will need to park at the MacKenzie Center and there will be signs and volunteers to show you where to park. There is a shuttle service that will take you to the grounds where the event is held. We will be under a tent outside so you will need to dress appropriately for the weather and being outside. The fly tying is held at the “Fishing Area” and there will be banners at the tent where we will be tying.

Attached is step by step directions for the flies we will be tying. If you can help for one or both days please call Bob Haase at 920-579-3858 or E-mail at flytier@milwpc.com. We could really use 5 or 6 more tiers for each day.
